Job application template

One of the most common questions we get is what should the job application include? This may be because it’s hard to find a good template.

So let's look at how to write an application letter.

Cover letter for job application

Before you start writing a cover letter you can check out some templates that you can find via

  • Word
  • Graphic websites
  • Job portals

The style that you choose should reflect both you and the job that you are looking for.

For example, if you choose a simple template it is probably because you are not looking for a creative job.

Conversely, if you are looking for a graphic or creative job, you should choose a template that has an inviting layout and which shows your flair and creative personality.

Unsolicited application template

If you choose to submit an unsolicited application, your template should still reflect who you are and what job you are applying for.

Many restaurants are constantly looking for unskilled and skilled staff. But that does not mean that it is necessarily easy to get a job in a restaurant. There may be many who apply for the job, so you may find that you have to do something that makes you stand out from the crowd if you are sending in an unsolicited application.

Try to think about

  • Can you take a picture of yourself standing in front of the restaurant and add it to your unsolicited application?
  • Use YouTube or another social media channel as a format when submitting your application. If you are in doubt about whether the restaurant would like to receive unsolicited applications via video link, call the restaurant manager first. This way, you have already established contact with the person who is probably responsible for hiring.

Whether you are applying unsolicited in a restaurant, in an accounting firm, or something completely different, then you have to promote yourself, how do you sell yourself in an application?

Maybe you get nervous when you see the word sell. That is exactly what you have to do though, So how do you make the perfect application?

The perfect cover letter

If you want to write a professional application, then you can use the template below.

  • Start with a catchy headline. The headline is the first thing the company sees. You only have 2-3 lines to make the reader interested in reading your entire job application
  • Then write an introduction and your motivation for applying for the job. Here, too, it's about making the reader want to read the rest of your application
  • Now you are well underway, so you need to make it 100% clear to the company that you are hoping interview with them. You do this by giving examples of your competencies in relation to the position. For example: At company A - I showed through my competencies B and C that it gave the following result D
  • Now that you have aligned your experience with the job, it is good practice to outline your personality strengths, it will help the company understand how you may fit into a team there.
  • Finally, with your sign off paragraph politely say that you would be delighted to have an opportunity to elaborate on the above in a personal job interview
  • Remember in most cases it is better to write a short application text than a long, boring text, so reread your cover letter for flow and any errors, before sending it to the company

Now Let us focus on a job application example.

For some people, it can feel like a great challenge to know how to write a job application and in particular a CV. You can read more about it here: How to make a CV?

If you would like an application template, the one here applies no matter how experienced you are in writing them or role or job type you are looking for.

Where there is a small difference is that it can be a challenge to include a lot of detail about demonstrated competencies from previous jobs. But if you are looking for your first job, you can simply refer to how you work at school and participate in your leisure activities.

Maybe you are the person who is

  • Always the most active member when it comes to raising money for the football club
  • Arrive in good time for training (in a workplace it is important not to be late)
  • Purchases for joint events (which shows that you are diligent and trusted to handle money for the club)

You know yourself the best, so it is you who can most easily come up with some good examples. Otherwise, ask your

  • Parents
  • Sisters and brothers
  • Friends
  • Coaches
  • Teachers

Just ask them what they would highlight about you and what they wouldn’t! Why?  You can see how others perceive you.

And in the context of a job interview, it may also be that you get a personality test. You can read more about this by clicking on the button below:
